Your Opinion, Please

I have not been doing too much wedding stuff over the past week. My mind and life needed a wedding "time out".. A few things have popped up, and there is one that I just really don't know what to do about. Here is the situation: DJ or no DJ? Not DJ like the one pictured in the previous post.. DJ like disc-jockey, you know someone who plays music.

OK. So, David and I don't dance. We hate it. I am a proud member of my self-formed, "Non-dancer club".. and would never dance at Delta Chi Rho (my sorority) banquets.. or anything.. I just hate it for some reason.. And David is just not a dancer either. So, we really don't even want to have a first dance... or a mother/son, father/daughter dance. Ok, so you're thinking, that's fine.. don't dance.. you don't need a DJ. BUT.. I don't want the reception to be completely silent.. so I want some background music.. and the reception ballroom isn't equipped with a sound system.. so, I'm thinking the only way to have background music is with a DJ. Or is it?? I don't know!! I need help! What else could we do other than having a DJ? I mean, could a stereo project even noise to fill a room? Please, if you have any thoughts.. do not hesitate to comment and share..

And as long as I've got your attention here for your opinion... take a look at these dresses.. which one do you like better for my lovely bridesmaids?

Ok, so imagine the one on the right in the same brown as the one on the left. Tell me what you think!

hey Kristen-
okay, as a former wedding coordinator, there are a few options for background music-
one being what you said- play something instrumental through a sound system
or, like a few wedding's I'd done, they had a mini live orchestra...or, find one or two musicians from a local college who are looking to make some money- a pianist or violinist, and hire them. At our wedding reception, we had a friend who was an accomplished pianist play for the first 45 minutes or so...the waiting period up until cutting the cake and the bouquet toss...
If you have a dj, know that you WILL be dancing...so, if you really dislike it, find another alternative.
I love the dresses you picked- they're re-wearable. (Our bridesmaids loved that- one brought hers on a cruise!) Love that. Maybe ask your bridesmaids what they like best, for their bodies...and all go try them on together. Or, each one could wear a different dress that best suites their bodies all in the same chocolate brown color...that ends up looking pretty cool too.
Don't stress out about this stuff...it's supposed to be FUN! :)

well, speaking as one of the bridesmaids people, i like the new dress choice. but after trying on the other one yesterday, i gotta say i kinda love it! but you know i'll love whatever you choose!

about the music, i agree with the person above who was talking about maybe a live person playing. you could try and find a pianist and he could play like michael buble stytle music in the background. know though that i think they can be kinda pricey. you would just have to check around. or what i think you could do, it make a CD of your favorite songs, bring a computer or something with speakers there, and place it on repeat-or even just use itunes and make a play list. that was you and david can always have a copy of like your specific wedding songs. pedro has a couple of really nice speaker sets that hook up to computers that i think might work for what you are needing, i can ask him if you want.

i can't wait to come down there!!!!

Rachel's idea about a live person playing music is a good idea- classy. But it may be expensive. I think it would be cool to have songs that mean something to you guys playing in the background, and a easy way to do that is to do them from a computer-- really Rachel's ideas are both really good... I see why she's your best friend- it's always helpful when they can double as wedding coordinators!! heehee. About the dresses- I like the top one- the brown one because I like the ribbon around the waist- very sweet. But, you really should go with what the bridesmaids like. There's my votes! :)
